The Mystery of Irma Vep @ Court Theatre

Oct 28 2009

irmavep_homeNext week, keep an eye out for our direction street teams visiting college campuses throughout Chicago promoting The Mystery of Irma Vep opening  Thursday, November 12th at the Court Theatre in Hyde Park. Our teams will be distributing handbills and posting posters for this contender for the funniest American play of the last quarter-century.

Two actors take on innumerable dramatis personae in Charles Ludlam’s high-camp quick-change romp. Vep satirizes all that is ridiculous in Gothic Horror, Victorian melodrama, classic film, and conventional theatre. In addition, Court Theatre takes audience engagement to a whole new level by commissioning former University of Chicago math professor, Kevin Wald to create an exclusive crossword puzzle for the show. Wordplay, puzzles, and esoteric puns abound throughout the show and this crossword puzzle is not for the faint of heart

The Mystery of Irma Vep opens November 12th and will run through December 13th at the Court Theatre. Student Tickets are $24 and if you purchase your tickets before November 11threceive $10 off selected shows. For more details and to download the Mystery of Irma Vep crossword puzzle, click here.

Harris Theater Family Series

Oct 28 2009

2144_proddetailThe amount of family programming that Chicago has to offer is simply stunning and as a new parent, I’m excited to take advantage of all the great offers. The Harris Theater for Music and Dance returns with the Harris Family Series that kicks off next weekend (Saturday, November 7th) with a performance by our good friends at River North Dance Company. RNDC will be hand jiving and hustling through the history of dance. Each decade from the Roaring 20’s to the Hip-Hoppin’ 90’s is brought to life in costumes, narrative and fast footwork.

DJ Beethoven and the New Millenium Orchestra will be featured for the January installment (Saturday, January 30th) as they tackle the question, What is a DJ? Are DJ’s today’s composers? Was Beethoven one of the first? Come on this exciting trip with Francesco Milioto and his New Millennium Orchestra as he spins you through an urban electronic and orchestral mix of music.

Tickets for the Harris Family Series are $10 and all shows begin at 1PM. A subscription can be purchased for all three shows for just $20. For more information log onto www.harristheaterchicago.org

End Days at Next Theatre Company

Oct 28 2009

enddays200 We’re well into our Northshore poster distribution for Next Theatre’s latest production, End Days. Previews begin tomorrow night (Thursday, October 30th and End Days looks to be hilarious. The show centers on the Stein’s and their identity crisis: Mom has been “born again” and spends all day chatting with Jesus in the kitchen; Dad hasn’t got out of his pajamas in weeks and is starting to smell; and 16 year old Rachel is coping by going Goth.

Who will save the Stein’s? To everyones surprise, Rachel’s new awkward classmate, clad in an Elvis jumpsuit arrives on their doorstep to save the day. His big heart and blind optimism is just what the Stein’s need and may be their best hope for a new a beginning.

End Days opens for previews on Thursday, October 29th. Use the code “FLYER” and save $5 on your tickets.  Next Theatre is located in the Noyes Arts Center in Evanston. For more information log onto www.nexttheatre.org.

Fresh Squeezed is QUEER!

Oct 26 2009

GallowayLargeVictory Gardens’ Fresh Squeezed series comes together for two very special one-night-only performances. The first event is Terry Galloway’s Out All Night & Lost My Shoes on Friday November 15th at 7:30PM. Side-splitting funny and shocking, Out All Night… is brimful of ideas for shaking an audience out of its gosh-aren’t-we-enlightened complacency an onto that uncomfortable narrow ledge where they’re not sure if they should be laughing or crying.

The following week, on the 22nd of November, Fresh Squeezed presents Kearn’s celebrated solo show, Intimacies. In it’s 20th Anniversary, Intimacy reminds us that only when we reconsider the catalysts for public fear and ignorance can we secure rights for the LGBT citizens.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of show and can purchased by calling 773.871.3000 or logging onto victorygardens.org.
