The Second City has been producing the entertainment world’s finest sketch and improv performers for more than fifty years. This December, a new chapter for the legendary theater opens. The Up Comedy Club will focus on stand up performances in the evening and family friendly shows for the matinee hour. Pipers Alley is slowly turning into the Midwest comedy mecca, a one stop shop for all things funny.

The direction staff passed out bright, red balloons along State Street promoting Up to the Thanksgiving day parade attendees.

Chicago Dancing Festival @ Millennium Park

If you’re not familiar with the incredible artistry and athletic ability that is modern dance, the Joffrey Ballet is making it easy for you to fully embrace this art form. The company is in the midst of the Chicago Dancing Festival. It wraps this Saturday with a free performance open to the public. Mayor Emanuel approved, this evening is perfect for anyone looking for a night on the town on the gorgeous lake front.

The direction team will be distributing Joffrey Ballet fans this Saturday evening to concertgoers at the Chicago Dancing Festival in Millennium Park. We’re thrilled to be working with the Joffrey for the first time and looking forward to future promotions with this prestigious institution.

Peter Pan 360 @ Chicago Tribune Freedom Center North

The first 360-degree CGI theater set will be Chicago for a few more weeks. This in the round production of “Peter Pan” features twenty-two actors, puppets, new music and flying sequences utilizing video projection in the world’s first 360-degree CGI theater set. Yes, Peter will fly but in this event, so does the audience. Just because he gets to fly over Edwardian London doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to as well.

The direction staff has been distributing a plethora of materials for this Broadway in Chicago and threesixty entertainment production at a wide array of high traffic locations downtown.

Rock of Ages @ The National Theatre

The successful Tony award winning musical/soon to be movie is currently playing in our nation’s capital. “Rock of Ages” is the story of a couple of dreamers on the Sunset Strip in 1987. Starring “American Idol’s” Constantine Maroulis and featuring the music of Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake and more, this musical is nothing but fun for all the music lovers in your family.

The direction team has been passing out coupons and handbills for “Rock of Ages” at a plethora of Washington D.C. landmarks and high traffic areas. We’ve also taken posters and handbills to most of D.C. and nearby neighborhoods in Virginia and Maryland.

Country rock sensation Miranda Lambert is bringing her “Revolution” tour to just outside of Chicago later this month. Currently touring to support her third record, this 25 year old singer has been going strong for the last seven years. She’s come quite a way from the 18 year old that bust onto the scene and “Revolution” is that proof.

The direction staff was promoting this Venue concert at least weekend’s Naperville Ribfest, handing out handbills.

Million Dollar Quartet @ Apollo Theatre

To say the longest running show in Chicago, “Million Dollar Quartet,” holds a special place in our heart is a bit on an understatement. We’ve been happily promoting this hit, Tony award winning musical for a few years and we hope it never ends. Though Elvis, Jerry Lee, Carl and Johnny only played music together on tape one magical evening, this production is keeping the music alive. The legends of rock, country and rockabilly are still going strong in Lincoln Park and across the world. Just last week they were featured on “Capital Fourth,” the musical extravaganza broadcast from our nation’s capital. You don’t have to head to Broadway when the legends are alive in your backyard.

Brian Culbertson is currently touring on the release of his most recent album, “XII.” The album, the R&B/jazz multi-instrumentalist’s twelfth, features a wide array of guest vocalists and styles. Ranging in styles from Go-Go to Chicago Stepping, the album is an excellent, ambitious project. Brian’s Chicago stop is a homecoming of sorts, the talented musician is a graduate of DePaul’s School of Music.

Direction is happy to be doing some street promotion and printing production for One Eleven Production. We’ve taken posters and handbills on our south side routes and have done some hand to hand promotions at concerts by R. Kelly, Earth, Wind, and Fire and more.

What can only be described as indescribable, this show proves that gravity isn’t a big hurdle for these acrobats. After seeing “OVO,” you’ll look at your backyard in a very different light.

One of the best places to see some of comedy’s biggest performers is actually just outside Chicago, in Hammond, Indiana, at The Venue at the Horseshoe Casino. Vegas level entertainment is presented most every night. We’re looking forward to the stand ups The Venue is bringing in. My favorite late night host Craig Ferguson will be there in a few weeks. Following the Scotsman will be the palest man in show business, Jeff Gaffigan. “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver will grace us with his political wit. The versatile Eddie Griffin brings his energy and talent and the most successful puppet comic, Jeff Dunham is also going to be at The Venue. There’s no shortage of excellent entertainment and you don’t ever need to head west for a good time.

Treasures from the Forbidden City @ Milwaukee Art Museum

The Milwaukee Art Museum has outdone themselves with their current summer exhibit, Treasures from the Forbidden City. The museum is only one of three in the world that is showcasing over ninety objects from the Qianlong Garden and the Forbidden City in Beijing. Most of what is shown has never before been seen by the public.

The direction staff has been promoting this Milwaukee Art Museum exhibit throughout the north side of Chicago, in China Town and at special events like the Dragon Boat Races and Chinatown Summer Fair.

Tedeschi Trucks Band @ Chicago Theatre

One of the few southern rock/blues husband/wife duos, the Tedeschi Trucks Band is bringing their live show to Chicago this August. The couple, made up of Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers Band, The Derek Trucks Band) and Susan Tedeschi, has just released their first album, “Revelator” and will be touring the world this summer.

The direction staff has been promoting, and will be promoting, this Madison Square Garden Entertainment event at multiple concerts and street festivals, including Bluesfest, Green Music Fest, Folk & Roots Fest, Old 97′s, Steve Earle, Taste of Lincoln, Phish and Lollapalooza.

Dave Matthews Band Caravan

The inaugural Dave Matthews Band Caravan is hitting four cities this summer and Chicago is the location for the Midwest stop. This three day festival features headlining sets from DMB each night in addition to an eclectic mix of jam bands, soul, jazz, blues, country, southern rock, hip-hop and other acts. If you’re thinking this fest is just for the diehards, it is, but it’s also for the fringe fan. Look at Sunday’s lineup if you don’t believe me. Emmylou Harris, The Flaming Lips, Gomez, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and The Jayhawks will be sharing a bill with DMB and five other acts. Whether or not you like Dave Matthews is pretty much irrelevant with a bill that solid.

Go Do Good

Art and education are joining forces this summer. The Chicago Loop Alliance and United Way of Metropolitan Chicago are bringing Go Do Good to the loop. A celebration of artist Kay Rosen’s installations and a reminder for the city to take care of its kids, Go Do Good is a three month plan to get children where they need to be. June, July and August have different areas of focus. June is about children’s literacy, July is for health and August is to get kids ready for school. The goal is 100,000 good deeds, something Chicagoans should have no problem acheiving.

The direction team has been heavily promoting this Chicago Loop Alliance effort on most of our retail routes in addition to hand to hand in the loop.

“A Holiday Fantasea” begins this week at Shedd Aquarium. The show features Pacific white-sided dolphins, beluga whales and a California sea lion highlighting their beauty and natural behaviors. In addition to seeing an array of exotic animals, you’ll also be treated to performances from them accompanied by holiday music and festive backgrounds from around the world.

We’re very excited to be working with the John G. Shedd Aquarium for this show. We have teams scheduled to be promoting at multiple holiday themed events. We’ve already been at the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. Coming up is the Thanksgiving Day parade, Toys for Tots Parades, and an event each weekend leading up to Christmas. A different gourmet buffet prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering is served each week, with dishes created using fresh locally-grown produce from the MCA Farmer’s Market. Written and directed by award winning platinum artist and producer Lil Louis, Based on the critically acclaimed book A Man’s Diary, the play bravely takes the audience on one man’s entire love journey from the most romantic, innocent and funniest moments, to the worst, most painful and embarrassing moments imaginable.

This summer, the world’s most popular jam band has returned for a full blown tour. Phish will make their way to Alpine Valley for two back to back performances.

Even though these shows aren’t until the end of the summer, we are in the midst of executing a quick distribution in Madison and Milwaukee. We have teams actively targeting college campuses hanging posters and distributing handbills before classes let out for the summer. Both on separate tours, Ozomatli and Steel Pulse will be making their way to the House of Blues in Chicago in May. Currently promoting their new album Fire Away (which comes out on April 20th), Ozomatli are tearing up the road and venue circuit with their unique blend of Latin, Jazz, Hip Hop, and funk. Steel Pulse, who are touring with Toots and the Mytals, are rocking venues across the country with their stone cold reggae grooves.

adidas – MiCoach Boston

Last month, we worked on two incredible events with adidas to roll out their new MiCoach Running System. This week, we’ll be in Boston with Action Marketing Group launching another initiative coinciding with the Boston Marathon. We’ll have teams at the John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo demonstrating the MiCoach system as well as adidas apparel. Outside of the convention we’ll have roaming teams out and about giving away free swag and signing people up for special limited time offers. The weekend of fun will come to end on Monday at the Boston Marathon as we have staff there distributing shirts, yoga mats, and even applying temporary tattoos!

The John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo is at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston April 16th through the 18th. The Boston Marathon takes place on April 19th.

Not too long ago, we were tasked with printing and distributing materials for Slayer’s performance at the UIC Pavilion on February 5th. Unfortunately, the performance was postponed. But now it has been rescheduled to August! We are working Jam Productions, printing and distributing posters and handbills for this highly anticipated show! Many were disappointed at the news of the cancellation, put now is your chance to see one of the heaviest bands in the world! If you were out at the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, you probably saw our crack team of guerrilla marketers passing out handbills. This is part of project that we have been working on together with our good friends at Live Nation. Passing out flyers for upcoming shows including Slightly Stoopid and Gaelic Storm, our team joined the masses that came out in spite of the weather to the annual parade.

Chicago Opera Theater is off to a fantastic start this year with three amazing performances in the works. For their spring 2010 season, C.O.T. is proud to present Moses in Egypt, Jason, and Three Decembers.

We are working together with Chicago Opera Theater distributing their mailers to Chicago opera fans. If you attended this past Sunday’s opening performance of The Marriage of Figaro at the Lyric Opera House, you no doubt saw our team in action as they passed out mailers to those making their way to the performance. This week, we are working with our good friends at the Action Marketing Group as part of adidas’ new campaign for their miCoach products and website. We organized staff in Portland, OR and Jacksonville, FL who are demonstrating the miCoach gear and system. They will also be stationed at annual races (Shamrock Run in Portland, Gate River Run in Jacksonville) in order to pass out promo materials, and get runners excited about miCoach. Court Theatre is proud to present there latest production written by acclaimed playwright Tony Kushner. The Illusion tells the story of a father’s attempt to find his estranged son in a world of theatrical magic, outrageous humor, and true, complicated love.

In addition to launching a distribution campaign, we also had our street teams out distributing handbills to performances in Chicago if you were at the Harris Theater last Monday, or the Lyric Opera this past Saturday, you probably saw our team in action, and grabbed a handbill yourself.

The West-coast band makes it’s way to the Congress Theater at the end of the month! Slightly Stoopid are on a new tour, and you won’t want to miss it!

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to manage an event at the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami in support of Cafe Bustelo. If you were lucky enough to be in Florida and attended the fest, you most likely saw our staff passing out postcards that were redeemable at Cafe Bustelo’s flagship store for a free espresso. The staff was able to soak up the sun while promoting one of the best brands of Cuban coffee.

North & Clark Cafe @ the Chicago History Museum

We work regularly with the Chicago History Museum on a variety of promotional distributions, but now we’ll be helping them with a unique street promotion on election day. This Tuesday, we’ll be working in conjunction with their North & Clark Cafe to distribute coffee and muffin samples to voters who make it out to the polling stations early. There are two places to vote (the Latin School & the Chicago History Museum) and we’ll have teams at both locations handing out free samples to all who brave the weather to cast their ballots. The cafe will also have special hours that day (they’ll be open at 6am), so if you dig the samples, head over to grab yourself a proper coffee and breakfast.

North & Clark Cafe is located in the Chicago History Museum at 1601 N. Clark and is open daily from 9:30am-3pm Moday through Saturday, 12pm-4pm on Sundays.

The Artist's Studio As Party @ the MCA

The Artist’s Studio As Party is a three-floor fundraiser that honors the artists, the spaces, and the creative spirit of contemporary art. The event includes live music, food, artist guests, and interactive entertainment.

Utilizing our various distribution methods, we’ll be targeting retail routes in addition to several special events in the city including Arianna Huffington @ Columbia College Chicago, and the After Dark Series at the Art Institute of Chicago. 2009 is almost gone, and soon, a new year and new decade will be ushered in. What better way is there to start off than visiting the Chicago History Museum! For the first month of 2010, CHM will be hosting some very exciting and unique events including Compañeras a film profiling America’s first all-female mariachi band, Vino in the Village which features food, wine, and history, and lastly, a very special celebration of Martin Luther King Jr Day on January 18th.

White House Exhibit @ Museum of Science and Industry

Ever wanted to see what a tiny version of the White House would look like on the inside? This month, the Museum of Science and Industry presents White House: A Look Inside. The 60-by-13 foot, 1:12 scale replica is also accompanied by a photographic timeline, which chronicles it’s original construction, all the way up to present times.

To help promote this exhibit, we printed posters that will be distributed around the city, White House: A Look Inside is temporary, and your last chance to see it will be Presidents Day, February 15 2010, so make sure you check it out before it’s gone!

One Man Star Wars Trilogy @ Northshore Center for Performing Arts

Being Star Wars fans, you can bet we were pretty excited when the NCFPA asked us to lend a hand promoting the upcoming One Man Star Wars Trilogy performance. Based on the original trilogy series, Charles Ross acts out all three films with no costumes or props and for 75 minutes, takes the audience on an intense and hysterically funny ride.

We’ll be distributed 10,000 flyers this past Sunday at the United Center for the Star Wars Live concert series. Our staff was dressed as characters from the films, distributing the handbills to all of those in attendance.

Returning for it’s fourth year here in Chicago, The Snow Queen is a wonderful holiday show for the entire family. Based on the classic tale by Hans Christian Anderson, The Snow Queen is brought to life on stage with a wonderous musical score and amazing puppetry that will entertain audiences of all ages. In order to help Victory Gardens promote this highly anticipated production, we will be launching an aggressive retail distribution campaign, in addition to executing a hand-to-hand distribution downtown near Water Tower Place Mall. Million Dollar Quartet: Holiday Distribution

If you were at the annual Lights Festival or Thanksgiving Day Parade, there’s a good chance you saw folks wearing Million Dollar Quartet banner packs, and handing out flyers to people waiting patiently for the parade. That was us! We handed out thousands of flyers (that we printed in house!) which contained $8 off coupons for tickets. MDQ has been running strong for over a year now, and is about to make the jump to New York for a run on Broadway. We have been involved with the production from day one, and were happy to do a holiday push. If you haven’t checked it out, go and see the show that has become a musical sensation!

Billy Elliot The Musical @ Ford Center/Oriental Theatre

The musical version of the hit movie makes it’s way to Chicago! Adapted for the stage by director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling, writer Lee Hall, and with music by Elton John, Billy Elliot is the winner of ten Tony Awards, and one of the hottest musicals getting rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.

In order to build awareness for tickets going on sale, we will have a team out flyering this Friday afternoon in the downtown area. This is sure to be one of the biggest shows of the spring, so be sure to grab a flyer from us, and learn how you can get tickets to the musical called “the best show you will ever see” by the New York Post.

The holiday season is underway, and we are excited to be working with the Chicago Loop Alliance in promoting Winter Wonderloop. With deals and special events at restaurants, stores, and hotels, Winter Wonderloop is the premiere guide for all your downtown holiday events.

If you were in the loop late late last week, you probably received a Winter Wonderloop brochure from one of our staff members. We had teams out in full force distributing thousands of brochures to commuters, shoppers and pedestrians.
