We’re happy to be working the upcoming Rodrigo y Gabriela show at the Chicago Theatre being produced by Jam Productions. This world renowned guitar duo doesn’t make it to town that often so we take every chance we get to see them. This tour will feature the group performing with a backing band throughout the US for the first time. C.U.B.A., who collaborated with the duo on the recent album “Area 52,” will be playing on all dates.

The direction staff has been hanging posters and delivering handbills for this performance on our hipster and Latino specialty route distributions.

Rodrigo y Gabriela will be at The Chicago Theatre for a special, one night only appearance on Thursday, April 12. David Garrett is known around the world. His violin stylings are bringing classical music into the pop forum. A recent album of interpretations of rock songs from the likes of Nirvana, Aerosmith, Metallica and more have Garrett reaching across genres. After appearances on “Oprah,” “The Today Show,” NPR and more, Garrett shows no sign of slowing down.

Direction has been promoting this Advice Agency show on our specialty Eastern European route throughout the south side and northwest side.

The inaugural Dave Matthews Band Caravan is hitting four cities this summer and Chicago is the location for the Midwest stop. This three day festival features headlining sets from DMB each night in addition to an eclectic mix of jam bands, soul, jazz, blues, country, southern rock, hip-hop and other acts. If you’re thinking this fest is just for the diehards, it is, but it’s also for the fringe fan. Look at Sunday’s lineup if you don’t believe me. Emmylou Harris, The Flaming Lips, Gomez, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and The Jayhawks will be sharing a bill with DMB and five other acts. Whether or not you like Dave Matthews is pretty much irrelevant with a bill that solid.

For six days in June, Chicago is the funniest place in the world. The city known for sketch and improv comedy will be awash with the world’s best stand ups, sketch performers, improvisors and generally funny people. The legendary Just for Laughs festival is returning for another year. This year’s highlights include Steve Martin, Louis CK, Joel McHale, Demetri Martin, Paul F. Tompkins, Dave Attell, Bill Burr and more. That’s at one venue. One venue! There are thirteen venues! The problem isn’t finding something funny, it’s deciding which show to attend.

Direction has been promoting the Just for Laughs festival for the Advice Agency on a massive retail route and outside of a plethora of shows.

Dispatch is kicking off their 2011 summer tour next week and has a stop in Chicago on June 7. This veteran band is donating a portion of every ticket sold to Amplifying Education, a program that music educational programs throughout the U.S. The band is also asking fans to bring a book to the venue to help restock the New Orleans’ Recovery School District libraries.

The direction team has been distributing posters and handbills to Chicago college campuses. We’ve also done some show hits outside of EOTO, Death Cab for Cutie, Ozomatli and Brett Dennen. Direction printworks handled printing for all promotional materials.

The highest selling band in French music history, the Gipsy Kings, are coming to the Chicago for a one-night only stand. The group has sold over twenty million records, over four million of those in the states. We’re happy to be working with the Advice Agency to get the word out for this international supergroup.

The direction team created a foodie route for this show. We targeted upscale wine shops, creameries, gourmet grocers and more. In addition to this new plan of distribution, which is now part of our growing arsenal of specialty routes, we also promoted the show on our Yoga and Natural Living specialty routes.
