Disgraced @ American Theater Company

Jan 31 2012

27 seasons in, the American Theater Company is continuing their tradition of bringing new work into the world. “Disgraced,” a new play by Ayad Akhtar, tells the story of a Muslim-American lawyer rising in the corporate ladder. With each rung, he loses another piece of his culture and himself. What’s more important, attaining one’s goals or maintaining one’s sense of self?

The direction staff has been distributing handbills and hanging posters for this world premier play throughout the north side of Chicago.

“Disgraced” will be at the American Theater Company, Thursday to Sunday, until February 26. Become a fan of American Theater Company on Twitter and Facebook to receive discount offers. Please visit atcweb.org for the show schedule and upcoming shows as part of the 27th season of the American Theater Company.

Grease @ American Theater Company

Jul 19 2011

America’s favorite movie musical is in its rightful place and back on stage in Chicago. What began as a story about Chicago teenagers in 1959, having fun discovering who they are while singing and doing not so family friendly things, has been extended through August 21. This R-Rated version has some songs not heard in the much tamer film version and writer Jim Jacobs has made things a little more risque.

The direction staff is thrilled to be promoting this musical for a second round. We’ve been hitting the north side for a second time with posters and handbills.

“Grease” will be at the American Theater Company to at least August 21. For tickets, reviews and videos about the production, please visit atcweb.org.

Grease @ American Theater Company

May 10 2011

The film version of “Grease” always seemed a little lackluster. You would think teenagers working on cars and insinuating awesome summer affairs would be having awesome affairs and knife fights on screen. Hollywood was smart in their decision to water the film down. Because of their bright idea, every girl I knew in fifth grade knew every word of “Grease.” The original “Grease,” the one with edge, is returning to the city of its origin and pumping in some new blood. Author Jim Jacobs teamed up with Artistic Director PJ Paparelli and Choreographer Jim Corti to bring the 1971 version back to the stage. This production includes never before heard lyrics, music and scenes. Best of all, the Pink Ladies are a group of gals from the Northwest side of Chicago. Critics are raving over this re-visitation of the work. Time Out Chicago said, “Both intriguing historical document and rollicking entertainment, this restored version of Grease is happily unslick.”

Direction is proud to be distributing posters and handbills throughout Chicago for this home grown classic. We’ve expanded our usual American Theater Company coverage to include the north shore.

“Grease” is running until June 26 at the American Theatre Company. Please visit atcweb.org for tickets, show times, footage of the production and more.
