Now in addition to viewing the galleries for free, the MCA also offers a range of free events in Puck’s Cafe almost every Tuesday evening through the month of April. Events include Doodleganza: The Drawing Extravaganza, UBS 12 X 12: The After Party, Cabinet of Curiosities, and Magical Mystery Showcase.
The MCA has given us a variety of handbills advertising each of the mentioned events, complete with list of dates that we’ll be distributing all over the city. Keep an eye out for them and be sure to pick one up!

I’m sure I’m starting to sound like a broken record but Lillstreet Arts Center is such a great place to take a call and try your hand at ceramics, painting, printmaking or metalsmithing. Classes aren’t only fun but an inspiration to releasing some of that creative energy. Take a class over the holidays or give a class as a gift to friends and loved ones.
The winter season not only ushers in a new semester at Lillstreet, but their 34th Annual Holiday Show as well. Between November 16th and December 31st, stop by Lillstreet to view and purchase the wares of Lillstreet alums. These unique items make great holiday gifts and proceeds support independent artists!
Lillstreet Arts Center is located at 4401 N. Ravenswood and the 34th Annual Holiday show is open through December 31st. An Open House featuring free workshops for adults and kids’ activities is on December 5th from 12PM through 5PM.

MCA Family Days kicked off last weekend and I took the opportunity to take my son for an afternoon of art appreciation and stimulating activities. Needless to say, it didn’t work out that way and I spent most of the afternoon trying to explain to a two year-old that he can’t eat Goldfish snacks in the galleries. Otherwise, we had an excellent time. On Family Days, the MCA sets up a number of creation stations throughout the museum to allow children and parents to interact and create works of artistic genius. The teachers at each station are great fun and Family Days allows for a fun , affordable (read: Free) day with the family.
MCA Family Days are the second Saturday of the month and the next upcoming date is Saturday, December 12th. Keep an eye out at your favorite family destination as we’ll be distributing magnets with all of the dates listed.
