AXIS Dance Company @ Auditorium Theatre

Nov 17 2011

There’s a lot of dance in Chicago. If you’ve visited this blog, you’ve seen an average of two posts per week about the dance scene. Visiting companies, home grown talent, world class travelers, this city gets it all. The AXIS Dance Company stands out from the pack. The group consists of dancers with and without disabilities. Some dancers are bound to wheelchairs. Some aren’t. They work together. It’s amazing. To get an idea of what I’m failing to describe, watch the preview video.

The direction staff has developed a special needs route targeting organizations that support individuals with disabilities and special needs to distribute promotional materials for these two performances.

The AXIS Dance Company will be at the Auditorium Theatre this Friday and Saturday, November 19 and 20. For a complete list of upcoming performances at the Auditorium Theatre and to purchase tickets, please visit auditoriumtheatre.org.

David Sedaris @ Auditorium Theatre

Nov 08 2011

There aren’t many authors that people know by name and can pack a theater. Yes, Jonathan Frazen is a household name but no one is willing to drop some serious dough to see him read. Some NPR approved scribes might get recognized at the local indepedent book retailer, but their faces are still of a stranger. Sedaris, on the other hand, is the writer of the last two decades. Not only do critics adore him, the man gets people that don’t read to read. That’s not an easy feat. He’s also able to fill seats with nothing more than his wit. He’s a modern day Mark Twain, with less facial hair and more stories about being poor and from an ‘unique’ family.

The direction team has been distributing posters and handbills for this one night only reading and book signing throughout the north side and hand to hand at a “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” show.

David Sedaris will be at the Auditorium Theatre on Saturday, November 12. Tickets are currently available. Please visit auditoriumtheatre.org to purchase tickets.

The good folks at Broadway in Chicago are bringing Tevye and the rest of the cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” to town for an extremely limited run later this month. The direction staff has been distributing posters for this run on our Jewish specialty route and the near north suburbs.

“Fiddler on the Roof” will be at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University November 22 to November 27. For a full list of upcoming productions and a list of shows with tickets for sale, please visit broadwayinchicago.com.

Beyond Brokeback @ Auditorium Theatre

Nov 01 2011

Besides winning three Academy Awards and being one of the highest grossing romance films of all time, “Brokeback Mountain” is also a piece of art that still inspires countless people to create their own works. “Beyond Brokeback” will include a screening of the Ang Lee film followed by a panel discussion with cinema and academic experts and a staged reading of messages, essays, poetry and music inspired by the film. The staged pieces are directed by David Zak, conceived and adapted for the stage by Gregory Hinton based on the book “Beyond Brokeback,” written by members of the Ultimate Brokeback Forum website, with original music by Shawn Kirchner.
