The Chicago Tribune says that “Follies” is “one of the most anticipated shows of the year.” When the biggest newspaper in the Midwest is looking forward to a production, you can pretty much guarantee it’s a sure bet. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this Tony Award winner includes the songs “I’m Still Here,” “Losing My Mind” and “Broadway Baby.” If you’re wondering what show will be worth your money, look no further.

Let me begin by stating my love for Pinocchio. He’s a toy, then a boy and then a real boy. It’s heartwarming. It taught me valuable lessons in life, like children shouldn’t drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. It also made me smile quite a bit. What’s even better than the film version is the stage presentation. “The Adventures of Pinocchio” has its world premier at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre this summer. This musical is the perfect introduction for children to learn about acceptance, struggle and most importantly, being nice to the people and/or carpenter that loves you.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater is debuting the new self-aware and campy production “Murder for Two-A New Musical.” The musical is a mixture of an Agatha Christie style mystery, old-fashioned musical comedy and modern day fun. One actor plays a detective and one actor plays all the suspects. It works. New City has recommended this production, saying, “The straight-man/funny-man combo works wonders here, with Schmuckler’s earnestness giving Kinosian free rein to send his characters over the top and director David H. Bell has instilled this world premiere with a sense of excitement and experimentation throughout that caters to the show’s irreverent strengths.”

Written by Tony Award-winning British playwright Alan Bennett, “The Madness of George III” is about the problems surrounding the king whilst desperately trying to hold on to his power. With the support of his queen and rage to boot, the play is a nod to 18th century King Lear. This production will be directed by Penny Metropulos, a 19 season veteran with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Ireland’s Druid Theatre Company makes its Chicago debut following a sold-out run at London’s National Theatre. We’re working with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre to help get the word out about this upcoming production.  We will be launching a massive flyer and poster distribution throughout the city.  The production only lasts three days, so be sure to get tickets for the show The New York Times calls “ferociously entertaining.”

This hilarious tale is one of Shakespeare’s most popular and well known stories, and was adapted into the movie She’s the Man.
