Tuesdays on the Terrace @ Museum of Contemporary Art

Come to the MCA for free live jazz concerts every Tuesday during the summer, at Tuesdays on the Terrace, presented by Macy’s. A different gourmet buffet prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering is served each week, with dishes created using fresh locally-grown produce from the MCA Farmer’s Market. For a more casual evening, bring your own blanket for a relaxing evening on the garden lawn. In case of rain, the event takes place in Puck’s Cafe.

We have been executing hand-to-hand distributions for the past month, including hits at the Green City Market, Taste of Randolph, and Jammin’ at the Zoo. Be sure to grab a handbill which lists the complete schedule of artists performing each night

Phish @ Alpine Valley

This summer, the world’s most popular jam band has returned for a full blown tour. Phish will make their way to Alpine Valley for two back to back performances.

Even though these shows aren’t until the end of the summer, we are in the midst of executing a quick distribution in Madison and Milwaukee. We have teams actively targeting college campuses hanging posters and distributing handbills before classes let out for the summer. If you’re a student in either of these cities, keep an eye out for out teams, and be sure to say hello!

The Country Throwdown Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, is a multi-stage, multi-city summer run that launched on May 14th in Tampa, Florida, and is making it’s way to Tinley Park! The lineup boasts a slew of country favorites including Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, Jack Ingram, Eric Church, the Eli Young Band, and The Lost Trailers.

We executed a quick promotional distribution in support of this upcoming show here in Chicago, visiting country western stores throughout the surrounding suburbs. If you’re a country music fan, this is one tour you won’t want to miss!

The incomparable Liza Minnelli will perform at the legendary Chicago Theatre in June. Presented by Star Productions, Minnelli will sing sensational American standards in a glamorous and intimate concert. The show will feature some of the greatest songs of all time performed in their purest, most intimate form with Minnelli and her quartet. She will be accompanied by Billy Stritch.

Summertime means one thing: the start of tour season. This year, two jam band heavyweights take to the road and will make their way to Alpine Valley. The Dave Matthews Band will be playing two shows July 4th weekend. Jack Johnson, who is touring in support of his latest album To the Sea, will play at the end of July. 100% of his 2010 tour profits will be donated to charity.

Together with Live Nation, we will be promoting both of these shows. We printed posters for each artist which we are distributing throughout the Chicagoland area. Both acts are notorious for selling out amphitheaters, so be sure to get your tickets as soon as possible.

Both on separate tours, Ozomatli and Steel Pulse will be making their way to the House of Blues in Chicago in May. Currently promoting their new album Fire Away (which comes out on April 20th), Ozomatli are tearing up the road and venue circuit with their unique blend of Latin, Jazz, Hip Hop, and funk. Steel Pulse, who are touring with Toots and the Mytals, are rocking venues across the country with their stone cold reggae grooves.

This month, we have already begun several projects with them including Bamboozle and Maxwell/Jill Scott. Not too long ago, we were tasked with printing and distributing materials for Slayer’s performance at the UIC Pavilion on February 5th. Unfortunately, the performance was postponed. But now it has been rescheduled to August! We are working Jam Productions, printing and distributing posters and handbills for this highly anticipated show! Many were disappointed at the news of the cancellation, put now is your chance to see one of the heaviest bands in the world! Tickets are still available, and tickets purchased for the February 5th show will be honored. If you were out at the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, you probably saw our crack team of guerrilla marketers passing out handbills. This is part of project that we have been working on together with our good friends at Live Nation. Their debut album has garnered high praise among critics, making their tour highly anticipated. To help garner more attention for Bob Dylan & His Band’s three day residency at the Aragon, our friends at the Advice Agency commissioned us to print and distribute posters for the concerts. Chicago indie heroes Wilco return home for two shows at the UIC Pavilion. Due to the first show selling out, a second one had to be added. We are helping getting the word out on the second show by printing posters through our new direction printworks division, and then distributing them throughout the city to colleges and different neighborhoods. In support of their upcoming performance this Saturday at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, we dispatched street teams to different college campuses in order to hand out flyers, hang up posters, and build awareness for Dave Matthews Band’s Chicago appearance. Last week, our teams visited DePaul, UIC, Loyola, and Northwestern where they blanketed each campus with promotional materials. DMB is always consistent in having great summer tours, so be sure to catch them when they come through.

Still running strong at Old Town School of Folk Music this fall is World Music Wednesdays. Ushering in a plethora of musical events, OTSFM is one of the best places to see artists from around the world perform. Every Wednesday up until December, OTFSM presents a different world music performance. World Music Festival Chicago

Last week, we began a massive flyer distribution for this year’s World Music Festival in Chicago. Featuring 57 artists from 32 different countries, playing 55 shows in 21 venues, in just 7 days! You might have seen one of teams last weekend distributing flyers at the annual Jazz Festival or the African Arts Festival. This year the line up of artists includes West Coast DJ and electronic music artist Cheb I Sabbah, the latest buzz band out of South Africa BLK JKS, locals the Chicago Afrobeat Project, and from New York, Turntables on the Hudson. Ever since the release of last year’s Little Cat Plays the Alpha Rave, Chicago band My My My has seen their star rise significantly. Between the glowing reviews of their album, and their exciting live performances, they are quickly becoming quite the underground sensation. Warped Tour!

Summer always brings annual concert tours. But, in the last few years, we’ve seen Lollapalooza become a 3 day festival, and Ozzfest cancelled. Warped Tour though, is still going strong! Barreling through over 30 cities with 100 bands, Warped Tour is the premier punk showcase. We’ve been organizing promotions in various cities to promote Forever the Sickest Kids. If you’re attending shows in Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, or Kansas in the next few weeks, keep an eye out for our team hanging and distributing posters throughout the venue.

Even though it seems like summer has just begun, fall is lurking right around the corner. With that in mind, the good people at the Old Town School of Folk Music have released their fall concert line up. It’s a stellar list chalked full of amazing acts. Artist include Ritchie Havens, Leo Kottke, and Dengue Fever. If you’re already a member then you’ll be able to purchase your tickets early on July 24th, so take advantage of that amazing bonus. Today begins our full scale distribution of fall brochures that detail all of the upcoming acts. Be sure to grab one for more info!

Millennium Park-2009

Every year when summer rolls along, I always ask “what’s happening at Millennium Park this year?” Since it’s opening 5 years ago, Millennium Park has become a staple when it comes to summertime in the city. This summer, there are a slew of events including the Music Without Borders Series, Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz, and the new Edible Audible Picnic, where free, eclectic, live musical performances are given at noon while people can enjoy their lunch. We’ve almost completed a large scale distribution of season brochures for Millennium Park, which detail everything happening this summer. Be sure to pick one up in order to plan your outings today!

Grant Park Music Festival

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Grant Park Music Festival. The largest free classical music festival in the country, GPMF draws thousands of people every summer for a variety of performances. This year, be sure to catch Khachaturian’s Spartacus with violinist Karen Gomyo, Ingrid Fliter, the 2006 Gilmore Artist Award-winning pianist performing Schuman’s Piano Concerto in A Minor, and of course the grand finale, Beethoven’s 9th.

The Grant Park Music Festival runs through August 15th.

Folk and Roots Festival 2009

In June, we began a massive distribution for Old Town School of Folk Music’s annual Folk and Roots Festival. The event was this past weekend, and it was a great success! People are still talking about the magnificiant performance of Black Joe Lewis, and the amazing set by Karsh Kale. For those of you not able to attend, there’s always next year!

Green Day @ United Center

Green Day’s much anticipated follow up to the Grammy award winning American Idiot, final arrives on May 15th, along with the start of the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. With dates scheduled all over the world, and through October, this is looking to be one of the hottest tours of the year. If you’re near the Chicagoland area, be sure to pick up your tickets when they go onsale this Saturday.

Green Day plays the United Center July 13th. Tickets go on sale May 16th at 10:00am.

Gogol Bordello @ Congress Theater

Everyone’s favorite gypsy punk band will be coming back to town at the end of May. Formed in 1999, Gogol Bordello has become famous (or infamous) for their chaotic, theatrical live shows. We will be doing a variety of show hits this month, including Death Cab for Cutie at the Aragon, and Franz Ferdinand at the Riviera, where we’ll be distributing flyers. If you spot one of our staff, be sure to grab one!

Robin Thicke & Jennifer Hudson @ Arie Crown Theater

One is an American Idol finalist; the other, is the son of that guy who played the dad on the hit TV show Growing Pains. These two singers will collide on stage for two nights at the Arie Crown Theater for what is sure to be two of the most highly anticipated shows of the spring. The tour kicked off on April 2nd, and will blow through several cities before arriving in Chicago. We will be flyering all over the Chicagoland area in order to promote theses upcoming performances. Remember, this is Hudson’s hometown, so expect both shows to sell out. Order tickets while you can!

My My My @ the Bottom Lounge

My My My had so much fun with us on our last project, that they decided to come back and have us help promote another show. This time, they will be at the newer Bottom Lounge venue, which since its opening has hosted a slew of great indie acts. Direction will be out at various shows throughout the city giving away free copies of My My My’s new full length album. Be sure to keep an eye out for us.

Old Town School of Folk Music's Spring 2009 Concerts

While most of Chicago is bracing itself for the long cold winter we inevitably endure, Old Town School of Folk Music is already looking ahead to the wondrous arrival of Spring with their 2009 Spring Concert lineup. OTSFM has new shows booked from now until June which includes performances by Lambchop, Warren Haynes, and Adrian Belew. Be sure to check out what they have to offer by picking up one of their Spring Brochures which we will be distributing throughout the city.

Old Town School of Folk Music Kids' Concerts

Direction has worked with OTSFM for a number of years on a variety of projects. The Kid’s Concerts series is one of their most popular events, allowing children to come and enjoy songs by unique artists that you probably won’t find on any Kidz Bop compilations. November’s events look to be particularly exciting, with performances from Funkadesi, Kimya Dawson, and the Asylum Street Spankers. We’ll be hitting the streets distributing flyers at various shows, boutiques, and other places throughout the city, so be sure to check it out.
