Invisible Man @ Court Theatre

Jan 25 2012

The Court Theatre is premiering “Invisible Man,” the first authorized by The Ralph and Fanny Ellison Charitable Trust. The landmark American novel is now a groundbreaking play. The Chicago Tribune is raving about the production. “Like so much in this singular, 600-page, 1952 novel — and now, at the Court Theatre in Chicago, a remarkable, 205-minute, must-see, three-act dramatic achievement adapted by the writer and filmmaker Oren Jacoby — that remark offers very good advice for anyone, say, staring with disbelief at the men who make up a presidential primary, or merely trying to deal with a neighbor of a diffrerent stripe.”

The direction team has been distributing handbills and hanging posters throughout the south side and near north side of Chicago.

“Invisible Man” runs until February 19 at the Court Theatre on the campus of the University of Chicago. Tickets for this critically acclaimed show are available. For seats and information on the rest of the 2011-12 Court season, please visit courttheatre.org.

Three Tall Women @ Court Theatre

Jan 17 2011

Edward Albee (“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”) wrote this very personal piece shortly after the passing of his step-mother. The play is about one human life, told through the performances of three different women. Woman A is on her deathbed, with a certain clarity that comes from the knowledge that time’s almost up. Woman B is middle-aged, in a marriage that’s bound to end and about to regain perspective. Woman C is twenty-six, working as a department store mannequin, going through boys until she finds the right one, she refuses to acknowledge she will ever turn into A. The play is directed by Court Theatre Artistic Director Charles Newell, whose 2004 production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” was named “the finest production I’ve seen to date” by Terry Teachout of the Wall Street Journal.

The direction team has distributed posters and handbills for this production throughout Chicago.

“Three Tall Women” runs until February 13 at the Court Theatre. Please visit courttheatre.org for tickets and information.

Home @ Court Theatre

Nov 02 2010

The performance follows Cephus Miles for twenty years, through the 1960s and 70s. We see the struggle he has maintaining family obligations and keeping up with the time. Only three actors play all the roles in “Home,” stretching out as much as possible in front of the audience.

In addition to distributing materials to South Side and North Side neighborhoods, direction is also promoting the show hand-to-hand at churches around the city this upcoming weekend.
