Lord of the Dance @ Rosemont Theatre

The worldwide hit music and dance production that was created, choreographed and produced by Michael Flatley is coming to the Rosemont Theatre. The show has been running for over ten years around the world. It’s been so successful a second troupe was added. Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre will perform it’s annual Jubilation are, working with pianist Reginald Robinson, and featuring the premiere of Four Negro Spiratuals. Other works include Corner Sketches: A Tribute to Miles Davis and Stones of Hope

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago features a nationally respected academic program focusing on developing a personal voice and maturity in the dance artist. The 2010 Summer Dance Intensive offers challenging technique courses across a range of styles including yoga, ballet, and modern dance techniques, and is open to degree-seeking and community students. The Dance Center faculty is comprised of working artists, enhanced by national and international visiting artist-teachers.

April 2010 is bringing a ton of fun classes and events to the Old Town School of Folk Music. While it’s true we are practically at the halfway point for the month, there are still plenty of things going on. Classes offer everything from guitar to harmonica to dance to singing. 8 week classes begin the week of April 26th. The Creative Chicago Expo is free and open to the public. Love Taps @ the Theatre Building Chicago

Chicago Tap Theatre will be presenting its first ever tap story-show where the audience will determine the fate of the tale. Love Taps explores the concept of lonely singles searching for their soul-mates through internet dating, and what happens after those couples meet their on-line prospects in-person. During intermission, the audience will be able to decide which characters get to be paired up with each other, creating entirely different performances from night to night.

We’re very happy to be a part of this new production, and are doing our part to help spread the word on this new production. Our team has been hitting the streets, putting up posters and handbills throughout Chicago Neighborhoods.

RNDC Valentine's Weekend Engagement @ Harris Theater

This Valentine’s Day weekend, River North Dance Company and Harris Theater have you covered with a variety of new shows! Robert Battle, returns to River North Chicago to follow 2008’s exhilarating Train with the world premiere of Ella, celebrating the scat vocals of Ella Fitzgerald. Following her recent success with American Ballet Theatre, Lauri Stallings, returns to debut a world premiere entitled Suppose. The critically acclaimed piece, Forbidden Boundaries by Artistic Director Frank Chaves and crowd favorite, Evolution of a Dream by Sherry Zunker return to round out the Company’s 20th Anniversary season.

Through our printworks division, we’ve printed the memorable and eye catching RNDC poster to place in key locations around the city. New York based performance artist Koosil-ja Hwang will present a new multimedia performance piece at The Dance Center of Columbia College. Using dance, electronic music, and live camera work, Blocks of Continuality/Body, Image, and Algorithm tells three simultaneous stories simulating the coexistence of the digital and flesh worlds. The musical version of the hit movie makes it’s way to Chicago! Adapted for the stage by director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling, writer Lee Hall, and with music by Elton John, Billy Elliot is the winner of ten Tony Awards, and one of the hottest musicals getting rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.

In order to build awareness for tickets going on sale, we will have a team out flyering this Friday afternoon in the downtown area. This is sure to be one of the biggest shows of the spring, so be sure to grab a flyer from us, and learn how you can get tickets to the musical called “the best show you will ever see” by the New York Post.

Harris Theater Family Series

The amount of family programming that Chicago has to offer is simply stunning and as a new parent, I’m excited to take advantage of all the great offers. The Harris Theater for Music and Dance returns with the Harris Family Series that kicks off next weekend (Saturday, November 7th) with a performance by our good friends at River North Dance Company. RNDC will be hand jiving and hustling through the history of dance. Each decade from the Roaring 20′s to the Hip-Hoppin’ 90′s is brought to life in costumes, narrative and fast footwork.

DJ Beethoven and the New Millenium Orchestra will be featured for the January installment (Saturday, January 30th) as they tackle the question, What is a DJ? Are DJ’s today’s composers? Was Beethoven one of the first? Come on this exciting trip with Francesco Milioto and his New Millennium Orchestra as he spins you through an urban electronic and orchestral mix of music.

The River North Dance Company’s 20th anniversary season opens with a world premiere by artistic director, Frank Chaves, and, a new twist on the company’s classic signature piece, Reality of a Dreamer. Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s 20th Anniversary Season performs their Chicago debut of Washington D.C.’s celebrated Step Afrika! featuring stepping, gumboot, African and contemporary percussive arts. A few weeks ago, we did a massive one off distribution at the Stomp Out event at Chicago State University as part of the Chicago Football Classic. People at the event were very excited to hear about these upcoming performances, so don’t be surprised if all three nights end up selling out!

Chicago Dancing Festival 2009 @ Millennium Park

This year, the Chicago Dancing Festival descends upon the Harris Theatre, MCA, and Millennium Park in August. Programs include New Voices, Modern Masters, Workshops, Celebration of American Dance. This week, we are doing a massive poster distribution throughout the city to gear up for all of these exciting events. We’ve concentrated our efforts on the south and west sides of Chicago, so keep an eye out for four different posters of the festival. It’s only here for a week, so be sure to check it out!

The Chicago Dancing Festival takes place August 18th-22nd.

Old Town School of Folk Music

The Old Town School of Folk may be known for its amazing live performances it draws (such as The Bad Plus). But what people sometimes can forget is that OTSFM is first and foremost, a school. Wanting to provide an environment where both kids and adults can learn music, theater, and dance, Old Town offers four very different and distinct class levels: Wiggleworms, Kids Classes, Adult Classes, and Private Lessons. We have been distributing brochures for all four throughout the city. Each contains a complete schedule of classes available, so be sure to pick one up!

All spring classes and lessons at Old Town School of Folk Music run through June 21st.

Marc Bamuthi Joseph is a visual artist who brings his latest performance piece to the MCA. Based on his upbringing, Joseph uses music, dance, and spoken word to tell his unique story. Utilizing our streetmarketing abilities, the MCA has enlisted us to promote the upcoming performances through our retail routes and hand-2-hand distribution at spoken word events throughout the city.

Te Amo @ Chamber Opera Chicago

Chamber Opera Chicago is known for their extravagant performances and productions. We are very happy to be working with them once again on Te Amo, which features highlights from Carmen, Man of La Mancha, La Vida Breve, Granada, and many others, performed with traditional Spanish dances by Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, video clips of virtuoso dancers Pascual Olivera and Angela Del Moral, and a special appearance by Willy Shives of the Joffrey Ballet.

River North Chicago Dance Company is dedicated to preserving and advancing contemporary jazz dance. For Valentine’s Day this year RNCDC will be presenting three world premier performances: Company dancer Monique Haley will present “Uhuru”, a full company piece featuring an afrobeat style of music. Artistic Director Frank Chaves will debut a group piece, “Tuscan Rift”, set to music by Rene Aubry and Andrew Bird, and a signature style duet entitled “Sentir em Nos (Even for Us)”. RNCDC is known for their magnificent performances, and these will be no exception.

Dirty Dancing @ Cadillac Palace

Back before the holidays, Cadillac Palace asked us to go out and promote for a special deal they were offering for their production of Dirty Dancing. Unfortunaletly, those days turned out to be Dec. 16th, 17th, and 18th, which was when we got several inches of snow, and the temperature dropped significantly. Even though it was brutal outside, our teams were still able to promote in the downtown area, and theatre district (you may have seen us wearing pink). We managed to get the materials out, and the promotion was a huge success. Since guerrilla street marketing is what we do best, we were able to execute this with no problem, and even though you may have missed us in the street, Cadillac is still offering great deals for the rest of the run.

Dirty Dancing is at the Cadillac Palace until January 17th.

Lar Lubovitch @ Harris Theater

In order to tell people about their $5 Lar Lubovitch show, Harris Theater contacted us to hit the streets and spread the word. With only 24 hours notice, we were able to assemble street teams to pass out materials around Michigan & Randolph and we are confident that our efforts helped better inform people around the area of the performance. Because direction is based in Chicago, we are able to orginize at a moments notice in order to meet our clients needs. If you missed today’s performance, don’t worry. You still have a chance this weekend to see it.
