What would you do? Your best friend suggests a capable candidate for a potential business project. You invite the candidate to meet you at your home. After a brief meeting and the candidate’s departure, you realize your family heirloom watch, which had been sitting on your desk during the meeting, is gone. What would you do? Would you call your friend who recommended the candidate? Would you call the person who’d been in your home? Would you ask directly, “Do you have my watch”? Or, would you call the police? What if the roles were reversed? Would you feel unjustly accused? Would you worry about potential damage to your reputation? Would you want revenge? Hereby hangs the story of DEFAMATION, where this very dilemma leads to a riveting courtroom encounter between a Jewish North Shore businessman and an African American business woman that challenges our preconceived notions about race, class, religion, and even the law.

We’ve been promoting Defamation in anticipation of the shows premiere. Our staff has expanded our Evanston route two-fold and have also hit the surrounding towns quite hard.

Bee is a young woman who believes she has the uncanny ability to see the future, and maybe even alter it. With the click of a television remote, we loop through time in this dark, funny world premiere about a woman bent on reinventing her own destiny, and possibly, the world.

Written and directed by award winning platinum artist and producer Lil Louis, Based on the critically acclaimed book A Man’s Diary, the play bravely takes the audience on one man’s entire love journey from the most romantic, innocent and funniest moments, to the worst, most painful and embarrassing moments imaginable.

Sizwe Banzi is Dead @ Court Theatre

Master playwright Fugard and the actors of the original South African cast collaboratively wrote the story of a man who pretends to be dead in order to live. This searing exploration of identity and the political power of storytelling is presented in a new, intimate staging by Court Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson.

We last worked with Court Theatre on the critically acclaimed The Illusion, and now, we’re excited to be a part of their newest production. Jack Shore, a well-known television personality, is appearing for one night only in a tribute to his grandfather, Jack Shemerinsky, great star of the Yiddish Theater. Backstage in his dressing room, Jack confronts his challenges as an actor and as a husband to his co-starring wife simultaneously, 75 years in the past, Jacob has problems of his own. Actors play their past and present roles in a dizzying display of life in the theater in this time-traveling farce.

Killer Joe focuses on the Smith family, a greedy and vindictive clan of Texans, hatch a plan to murder their estranged matriarch to cash in on her insurance policy. Unable to bring themselves to do the deed, they hire Killer Joe Cooper, a full-time cop and part-time contract killer. Once he steps into their trailer, their simple plan quickly spirals out of control.

We have been in the middle of a distribution campaign for Killer Joe, and have also been printing the promotional materials themselves. This production, brought to life by Profiles Theatre, was written by playwright Tracy Letts and is directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member Rick Snyder.

Today, 1 in 3 marriages end in divorce. However, it isn’t likely that a woman will lose her head physically! But that was just an everyday fear held by many women pursued by King Henry the VIII of England between 1509 and 1547. Created by The Foursight Theatre Company in Wolverhampton, England in 1999, Six Dead Queens and an Inflatable Henry! is a devised theatre piece packed with intrigue, rowdy good humor and duels of words.

Three boys meet while fleeing the horrors of war. They soon find themselves in Fargo, North Dakota where encountering drought, crocodiles and guerrillas are replaced with malls, video games, and Skittles.

We are working closely with Victory Gardens on this project, as we distribute handbills all over the Chicagoland area. Be sure to bring your used books to the performances, as Victory Gardens has partnered with The PACODES Library Project to collect books that will help build a library in Southern Sudan.

The Broadway hit is finally here! Billy Elliot the Musical makes it’s way to Chicago this spring for an extended stay. Billy Elliot is the heartwarming celebration of one young boy’s triumph against the odds. 1948 marked the birth of the Jewish state and the exodus of 500,000 Palestinians from Israel. Return to Haifa tells the story of two of those Palestinians forced to flee, and leave behind their newborn son, who ends up being adopted and raised by a Jewish couple. The birth parents return two decades later to try and reclaim what they once lost.

Next Theatre prides itself on putting together amazing stage shows, and Return to Haifa is a must see production. Lucid tells the story of Peter Moore, a discontented artist who begins to experiment with the art of lucid dreaming, fulfilling his wildest fantasies with an imagined mistress. Soon, Peter discovers that he may have permanently blurred the line that separates dream from reality.

Soon, the unstoppable Million Dollar Quartet will be debuting on Broadway. But, that doesn’t mean the curtain is closing in Chicago just yet. MDQ is back for another extension, this time through the month of March! Hughie / Krapp's Last Tape @ Goodman Theatre

Just in time for the start of the new year, this double dose of Brian Dennehy makes its way to the Goodman Theatre. First up is Hughie, the story of high-rolling gambler Erie (Brian Dennehy) and Hughie (Joe Grifasi), the credulous night clerk at his apartment building. Next is Krapp’s Last Tape, Samuel Beckett’s classic one-act, one-man show about a man celebrating his 69th birthday, and his annual tradition of making a recording of himself for the occasion.

We are distributing posters advertising both shows all over the Chicago area. Being huge Dennehy fans here at the office, it goes without saying that we are very excited to be working with the Goodman on this project. Be sure to get your tickets before they’re gone!

The Island @ the Greenhouse Theater

Athol Fugard’s The Island comes to life at the Greenhouse Theater. Set in an unnamed prison based on the one where Nelson Mandela was held, The Island tells the story of cellmates who spend their days doing back-breaking labor, and their nights rehearsing Sophocles’Antigone to present to their fellow inmates. Brought to life on stage by the folks at Remy Bumppo, The Island is a testament to the resiliency of the human heart.

We are very happy to be working with Remy Bumppo once again distributing promotional materials all over the city of Chicago for their latest show. There are several new shows opening at the start of the year, but this is one you surely don’t want to miss!

Steppenwolf brings a new and exciting production to it’s stage! Written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, The Brother/Sister Plays are three separate acts that tell one unique story. Set in San Pere, Louisiana, The Brother/Sister Plays explore various themes including family and identity. They can be enjoyed independently, but it is recommended you attend all three acts.

Lookingglass brings their latest production to the stage this holiday season. Using myth, visual metaphor, song and gravity-defying choreography, Icarus explores a father’s need to have his child succeed, the psychological desire to take to the air, and the dizzying despair of falling.

American Buffalo @ Steppenwolf Theatre

The Steppenwolf Theatre continues it’s 34^th season with David Mamet’s classic American Buffalo. In a cluttered, run-down Chicago junk shop, three small-time crooks plot to steal a valuable coin collection. As the heist unravels, the men’s frustration and paranoia intensify. American Buffalo stars Francis Guinan, Tracy Letts, Patrick Andrews and is directed by ensemble member Amy Morton.

We first mentioned American Buffalo a few months back while we were distributing Steppenwolf’s seasonal brochures. Now, we are doing a full blown poster distribution in support of this exciting new production. Be sure to catch it while you can!

The musical version of the hit movie makes it’s way to Chicago! Adapted for the stage by director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling, writer Lee Hall, and with music by Elton John, Billy Elliot is the winner of ten Tony Awards, and one of the hottest musicals getting rave reviews from both critics and fans alike.

The House Theatre of Chicago's All the Fame of Lofty Deeds

direction street teams have been hard at work the past few weeks promoting House Theatre of Chicago’s latest production, All the Fame of Lofty Deeds. We’ve already completed a number of hand-to-hand flyer distributions at shows around Chicago including the Bob Dylan run at the Aragon Ballroom. We’re also distributing handbills and posters to neighborhoods and several of our specialty routes including our theatre route, bar & pub route, and our “hipster” route. To top it all off, we printed all of the promotional materials in-house at direction printworks!

Written by rock journalist Mark Guarino and featuring the music and artwork of Bloodshot Records recording artist Jon Langford, this phantasmic journey into the mind of a fictional country music legend is what an episode of Howdy Doody might look like if it were directed by David Lynch. Sadly reflective and yet hilariously surreal, the show mixes rock biography, live music and stunning visual effects to tell a tripped out tale of the demise of America’s last living cowboy.

Victory Gardens’ Fresh Squeezed series comes together for two very special one-night-only performances. The first event is Terry Galloway’s Out All Night & Lost My Shoes on Friday November 15th at 7:30PM. Side-splitting funny and shocking, Out All Night… is brimful of ideas for shaking an audience out of its gosh-aren’t-we-enlightened complacency an onto that uncomfortable narrow ledge where they’re not sure if they should be laughing or crying.

The following week, on the 22nd of November, Fresh Squeezed presents Kearn’s celebrated solo show, Intimacies. In it’s 20th Anniversary, Intimacy reminds us that only when we reconsider the catalysts for public fear and ignorance can we secure rights for the LGBT citizens.

Tom Stoppard’s translation of Gerald Sibleyras’ play won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Brought to you by the folks at Remy Bumppo Theatre, Heroes is a funny, entertaining, and bittersweet tale. 45th Annual Chicago International Film Festival

The 45th Annual Chicago Film Festival is currently underway! Our friends at Cinema/Chicago (who curate the festival), were nice enough to contact us in order to enlist our help distributing thousands of film festival guides throughout the city. We targeted college campuses and several different neighborhoods to make sure they had the best exposure possible. Keep an eye out for the schedules and be sure to grab one to see what the festival has to offer.

The 45th Annual Chicago International Film Festival runs through October 22nd.

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity @ Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre

Victory Gardens’ current production The Eloborate Entrence of Chad Deity, is set in the world of professional wrestling. We’ve been in the middle of a full scale distribution for this interesting show which explores not only wrestling, but also raises pertinent questions about racial identity and pop culture in our society. Chad Deity was written by Kristoffer Diaz and directed by Eddie Torres.

House on Mango Street @ Steppenwolf Theatre

Steppenwolf’s current season is off and running, and their newest production begins next week. Based on the novel by Chicago writer Sandra Cisneros, The House on Mango Street is the touching and humorous story of a young girl growing up in one of Chicago’s culturally diverse neighborhoods.
