Theaster Gates @ Milwaukee Art Museum

May 05 2010

10_theastergatesIn this exhibition, contemporary Chicago-based artist Theaster Gates Jr. explores the history and legacy of Dave Drake aka Dave the Potter. A slave in antebellum South Carolina, Drake produced stoneware pottery and famously adorned his pots with poetic couplets. Though art historians have explored Drake’s career in detail, Gates is the first artist to reinterpret his work and to make it pertinent to a broader set of concerns about the place of labor and craft in present-day America.

We worked with MAM last month promoting their Raphael: The Woman with the Veil, and ae excited about their latest exhibit which will be in place throughout the summer. Be sure to check it out.

Theaster Gates’ exhibition will be at the Milwaukee Art Museum through August 1st. Please visit www.mam.org for more information.

White House Exhibit @ Museum of Science and Industry

Dec 15 2009

whitehouse_oval_608Ever wanted to see what a tiny version of the White House would look like on the inside?  This month, the Museum of Science and Industry presents White House: A Look Inside.  The 60-by-13 foot, 1:12 scale replica is also accompanied by a photographic timeline, which chronicles it’s original construction, all the way up to present times.

To help promote this exhibit, we printed posters that will be distributed around the city, White House: A Look Inside is temporary, and your last chance to see it will be Presidents Day, February 15 2010, so make sure you check it out before it’s gone!

White House: A Look Inside is at the Museum of Science and Industry through February 15th. Visit www.msichicago.org for more information.

Dec 01 2009

WhiteCitySim_Dec09_ships_608The virtual simulation tour of the 1893 World’s Fair is back by popular demand! Visitors will be able to “walk” through the virtual White City to see what it looked like over 100 years ago. Since this exciting two day event is this weekend, we printed posters and distributed them throughout the city to help remind everyone that the popular exhibit is returning. Dr. Lisa Snyder, associate director of outreach and operations for UCLA’s Experimental Technologies Center and the UCLA Urban Simulation team, will be presenting the recreation of the White City using real-time video simulation technology while Tim Samuelson, cultural historian for the City of Chicago, provides commentary.

Explore the White City: World’s Fair Simulator is at the Museum of Science and Industry December 5th & 6th. Visit www.msichicago.org for more information
