The Trocks @ Harris Theater

The Trocks are an all-male ballet troupe featuring world class dancers on point. Sure, it’s campy and fun but it also presents a plethora of athletic and artistic ability. Their performance of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo for one night at the Harris Theater is for the dance fan and novice alike.

The direction staff has been distributing handbills and hanging “Boys Night Out” and “Girls Night Out” posters for this ballet on our GLBT specialty routes and throughout the north side of Chicago.

An Evening with The Trocks will be at the Harris Theater on Tuesday, January 24. Tickets for this one night only performance will likely sell out. Christian McBride @ Chicago Jazz Ensemble

2011 Bassist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association, Christian McBride will be sharing the stage with singer, rapper and electric bassist Meshell Ndegeocello to celebrate the 1978 collaboration between Charles Mingus and Joni Mitchell. The Chicago Jazz Ensemble is presenting this special event at the Harris Theater and letting the public get to know both performers in the days prior to the concert with Listening Sessions, artists interviews with panels of jazz experts that are open to the public.

The direction team has been distributing posters and handbills for these Chicago Jazz Ensemble shows on our southside route and our jazz specialty route which covers parts of the city and suburbs.

Christian McBride will be part of Listening Session on Wednesday, January 18 at a location TBD at noon which is free and open to the public. Jennifer Holliday @ Harris Theater

The original ‘Dreamgirl’ Jennifer Holliday is bringing her holiday show to the Harris Theater next week. The Tony and Grammy award winner has a voice to remember. For the last few decades she’s gone from Broadway to R & B to gospel, thriving in each style. Her one night only stop in Chicago is holiday specific, guaranteeing to leave the crowd elated with soaring voices and holiday cheer. The Soul Children of Chicago, a gospel choir made up of Chicago children will open the show.

The direction staff has distributed posters and handbills throughout the south side of Chicago and hand to hand at shows from Sinbad, Ledisi, Kirk Franklin and Anthony Hamilton.

Harold and the Purple Crayon @ Harris Theater

“Harold and the Purple Crayon” was staged by the Hubbard Street Dance Company for the first time last year. The performances garnered critical acclaim and sold out shows. This weekend’s shows look to do the same. With music by Andrew Bird, “Harold and the Purple Crayon” is an interpretive dance of the beloved 1955 children’s book. For children and adults alike, “Harold” has a much too short run.

The direction team has been promoting this children’s performance at the Harris Theater with poster and handbill distribution on our family routes in the city and suburbs and our dance specialty routes. We were also at the Magnificent Mile Festival of Lights handing out fliers to the crowd.

Family Series @ Harris Theater

The Harris Theater is home to some of the best dance in the country. They stage artistic feats on a regular basis, wowing season ticket holders and elevating Chicago’s place as a home to the arts. The theater also opens its doors to the little ones. The Family Series is bringing “Harold and the Purple Crayon: A Dance Adventure” to the stage this December. Performed last year to sold out audiences, the show is based on the classic children’s book.

The direction staff has been distributing promotional materials throughout the city and suburbs to family friendly shops for the Harris.

Merce Cunningham Dance Company @ Harris Theater

In addition to being a school for future dancers, The Dance Center of Columbia College also brings in some of the best companies from around the world. This month the Merce Cunningham Dance Company will be performing over two nights, featuring five separate works from legendary choreographer Cunningham. Night one includes “Squaregame” from 1976, “Quartet” from 1982 and “Antic Meet” from 1958. Night two will showcase “Roaratorio,” an evening-length largescale work set to John Cage’s complex 1979 composition “Roaratorio,” an Irish Circus on “Finnegans Wake,” consisting of music, text and sounds from places in James Joyce’s novel.

The direction team has distributed promotional materials for the Dance Center of Columbia College on our dance specialty route and throughout the north side of Chicago.

Diego El Cigala @ Harris Theater

Diego El Cigala is a treasure of the Flamenco community. Both of his parents played as well as his grandparents. Since the age of 12 he’s been in the spotlight, wowing audiences of all ages. The Miami Herald has hailed him as, “The Frank Sinatra of Flamenco.” This upcoming performance will highlight his recent album that was recorded at the legendary Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires.

The direction team has been promoting this OTSFM event at the Harris Theater by taking out handbills on our concierge route.

2011 Giordano Jazz Dance Company Fall Engagement

Since 1963 the Giordano Jazz Dance Company has been on the forefront of modern dance. In the nearly 50 years they’ve been performing, they’ve toured throughout four continents, been televised throughout America and each year acts as host of the Jazz Dance World Congress in Washington D.C. This well respected, much loved company will be performing “Passion and Fire” at the Harris later this month. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing modern dance in a modern theater, here’s your opportunity.

Sphinx Virtuosi @ Harris Theater

After selling out Carnegie Hall, the Sphinx Virtuosi is stopping for a one night only performance in Chicago. The group will be showcasing nine pieces from the likes of Handel, Vivaldi, Schubert and more. In addition to the internationally acclaimed group, the evening will also include solo performances from violinist Randall Goosby and cellist Gabriel Cabezas, a Chicago native, and violinist Allie Switala.

The direction staff has distributed materials for this performance hand to hand at performances at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Arts and Crafts Adventure and at the How Sweet the Sound tour stop at the United Center.

Hubbard Street Dance Fall Series @ Harris Theater

The three programs that make up the 2011 Hubbard Street Dance Fall Series include a madcap comedy, the only U.S. company to ever perform a work from Nacho Duato and the world premiere of a new work from Twyla Tharp. The dance legend is debuting this work for the Hubbard for only four days in October.

We’ve been taking out materials for these Allied Live produced events throughout Chicago and on our specialty dance route. Direction printworks handled the production of materials for this new client.
