Tuesdays on the Terrace @ Museum of Contemporary Art

Come to the MCA for free live jazz concerts every Tuesday during the summer, at Tuesdays on the Terrace, presented by Macy’s. A different gourmet buffet prepared by Wolfgang Puck Catering is served each week, with dishes created using fresh locally-grown produce from the MCA Farmer’s Market. For a more casual evening, bring your own blanket for a relaxing evening on the garden lawn. In case of rain, the event takes place in Puck’s Cafe.

We have been executing hand-to-hand distributions for the past month, including hits at the Green City Market, Taste of Randolph, and Jammin’ at the Zoo. Be sure to grab a handbill which lists the complete schedule of artists performing each night

Written and directed by award winning platinum artist and producer Lil Louis, Based on the critically acclaimed book A Man’s Diary, the play bravely takes the audience on one man’s entire love journey from the most romantic, innocent and funniest moments, to the worst, most painful and embarrassing moments imaginable.

This summer, the world’s most popular jam band has returned for a full blown tour. Phish will make their way to Alpine Valley for two back to back performances.

Even though these shows aren’t until the end of the summer, we are in the midst of executing a quick distribution in Madison and Milwaukee. We have teams actively targeting college campuses hanging posters and distributing handbills before classes let out for the summer. If you’re a student in either of these cities, keep an eye out for out teams, and be sure to say hello!

The Country Throwdown Tour, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, is a multi-stage, multi-city summer run that launched on May 14th in Tampa, Florida, and is making it’s way to Tinley Park! The lineup boasts a slew of country favorites including Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, Jack Ingram, Eric Church, the Eli Young Band, and The Lost Trailers.

April 2010 is bringing a ton of fun classes and events to the Old Town School of Folk Music. While it’s true we are practically at the halfway point for the month, there are still plenty of things going on. Broadway’s own Mike Burstyn makes his Centre East debut! The musical theater star sings show-stopping favorites accompanied by a three-piece band. Joining him is ‘Catskills on Broadway’ comedian Mal Z. Lawrence, for a superb night of entertainment!

Both on separate tours, Ozomatli and Steel Pulse will be making their way to the House of Blues in Chicago in May. Currently promoting their new album Fire Away (which comes out on April 20th), Ozomatli are tearing up the road and venue circuit with their unique blend of Latin, Jazz, Hip Hop, and funk. Steel Pulse, who are touring with Toots and the Mytals, are rocking venues across the country with their stone cold reggae grooves.

As most folks in Chicago know, Tuesday means free admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Now in addition to viewing the galleries for free, the MCA also offers a range of free events in Puck’s Cafe almost every Tuesday evening through the month of April. Events include Doodleganza: The Drawing Extravaganza, UBS 12 X 12: The After Party, Cabinet of Curiosities, and Magical Mystery Showcase.

The MCA has given us a variety of handbills advertising each of the mentioned events, complete with list of dates that we’ll be distributing all over the city. Keep an eye out for them and be sure to pick one up!

This spring is looking like the best yet for Old Town School of Folk Music’s concert line up! With names like Booker T, John Prine, and Bela Fleck (pictured left), OTSFM is setting itself up for a very busy season.

Million Dollar Quartet: Holiday Distribution

If you were at the annual Lights Festival or Thanksgiving Day Parade, there’s a good chance you saw folks wearing Million Dollar Quartet banner packs, and handing out flyers to people waiting patiently for the parade. That was us! We handed out thousands of flyers (that we printed in house!) which contained $8 off coupons for tickets. MDQ has been running strong for over a year now, and is about to make the jump to New York for a run on Broadway. We have been involved with the production from day one, and were happy to do a holiday push. If you haven’t checked it out, go and see the show that has become a musical sensation!

Eighth Blackbird performs Pierrot Lunaire @ Harris Theater

Just in time for the holiday season, Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire makes it’s way to Harris Theater for a one night stand. In this new production, director Mark DeChiazza uses movement and gesture to connect to the human core of this remarkable melodrama. Dancer Elyssa Dole and legendary soprano Lucy Shelton join Eighth Blackbird for the performance.

Distant Worlds @ Rosemont Theatre

Did you ever want to hear the music from Final Fantasy played live by an orchestra and choir? If your answer is yes, than your dream has come true. Next month, the award winning music composed by Japanese video game composer Nobuo Uematsu for the legendary gaming series will come to the city for a one night only performance.

We were very excited to receive the call to help promote this spectacular event featuring The Chicagoland Pops Orchestra and the Elmhurst College Concert Choir conducted by Arnie Roth. We’re very excited to be working with Hopera World on their upcoming production at the DuSable Museum of African American History. We’re currently distributing posters and handbills on a number of campuses in the Chicago area to help build awareness and hype for the premier.

A Fallen Hero is a full length Hip Hop Opera production with original music by Adrian Dunn. This moving story set in Chicago follows the life of young Obadiah King and his quest to find himself. This dynamic cast of ten operatic and popular vocalists, dancers, and rappers present Obadiah’s ability to triumph over loss, rejection, and even death.

Harris Theater Family Series

The amount of family programming that Chicago has to offer is simply stunning and as a new parent, I’m excited to take advantage of all the great offers. The Harris Theater for Music and Dance returns with the Harris Family Series that kicks off next weekend (Saturday, November 7th) with a performance by our good friends at River North Dance Company. RNDC will be hand jiving and hustling through the history of dance. Each decade from the Roaring 20′s to the Hip-Hoppin’ 90′s is brought to life in costumes, narrative and fast footwork.

DJ Beethoven and the New Millenium Orchestra will be featured for the January installment (Saturday, January 30th) as they tackle the question, What is a DJ? Are DJ’s today’s composers? Was Beethoven one of the first? Come on this exciting trip with Francesco Milioto and his New Millennium Orchestra as he spins you through an urban electronic and orchestral mix of music.

What do you get when you combine Jim James, Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and M. Ward? Monsters of Folk of course! This powerhouse super-group has been generating buzz for a while now. Their debut album has garnered high praise among critics, making their tour highly anticipated. We are in the middle of promoting for their upcoming appearance in Chicago, and will be passing out flyers at this weekend’s Wilco shows. To help garner more attention for Bob Dylan & His Band’s three day residency at the Aragon, our friends at the Advice Agency commissioned us to print and distribute posters for the concerts. We printed a few hundred, and then proceeded to blanket the city with them. Thanks to the addition of our printworks division, direction has become a one stop for all of your promotional needs. Tickets for these performances are almost all gone, so be sure to grab yours in order to see Dylan in this intimate setting.

Chicago indie heroes Wilco return home for two shows at the UIC Pavilion. Due to the first show selling out, a second one had to be added. We are helping getting the word out on the second show by printing posters through our new direction printworks division, and then distributing them throughout the city to colleges and different neighborhoods. In support of their upcoming performance this Saturday at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, we dispatched street teams to different college campuses in order to hand out flyers, hang up posters, and build awareness for Dave Matthews Band’s Chicago appearance. Last week, our teams visited DePaul, UIC, Loyola, and Northwestern where they blanketed each campus with promotional materials. DMB is always consistent in having great summer tours, so be sure to catch them when they come through.

This past week, we launched a major flyering and promotion campaign for the GLBT themed Weekend OUT in Atlantic City at Harrahs Resort. Kicking off tonight, the event includes performances by Cazwell and Amanda Lepore, a VIP mix and mingle with the L-Word cast members, and rounding it out is Rehab Brunch on Sunday with bingo hosted by Lance Bass and Jai Rodriguez. If you’re out east, be sure to drop by Harrahs to check out all of the fun!

Million Dollar Quartet!!!!

A few weeks ago, it was announced that the hit musical will be making its way to Broadway in the Spring. But don’t worry, because it’s not leaving Chicago just yet. Back for another extension, we’re helping out the show that has grown into a sensation by launching a poster distribution campaign through out the city. MDQ will be playing through the holiday’s, so be sure to see it before it moves out east!

World Music Festival Chicago

Last week, we began a massive flyer distribution for this year’s World Music Festival in Chicago. Featuring 57 artists from 32 different countries, playing 55 shows in 21 venues, in just 7 days! You might have seen one of teams last weekend distributing flyers at the annual Jazz Festival or the African Arts Festival. This year the line up of artists includes West Coast DJ and electronic music artist Cheb I Sabbah, the latest buzz band out of South Africa BLK JKS, locals the Chicago Afrobeat Project, and from New York, Turntables on the Hudson. Be sure to pick up a flyer, which details all of the artists playing, along with participating venues.

Ever since the release of last year’s Little Cat Plays the Alpha Rave, Chicago band My My My has seen their star rise significantly. Between the glowing reviews of their album, and their exciting live performances, they are quickly becoming quite the underground sensation. That is why we are ecstatic to be working with them again for their upcoming show at the Bottom Lounge. We will be distributing flyers and posters for this upcoming performance to neighborhoods all over the city. In addition, we’ll also be passing out flyers at several upcoming concerts, including The Mars Volta, when they make their appearance at the Congress Theater tonight.
