What would you do? Your best friend suggests a capable candidate for a potential business project. You invite the candidate to meet you at your home. After a brief meeting and the candidate’s departure, you realize your family heirloom watch, which had been sitting on your desk during the meeting, is gone. What would you do? Would you call your friend who recommended the candidate? Would you call the person who’d been in your home? Would you ask directly, “Do you have my watch”? Or, would you call the police? What if the roles were reversed? Would you feel unjustly accused? Would you worry about potential damage to your reputation? Would you want revenge? Hereby hangs the story of DEFAMATION, where this very dilemma leads to a riveting courtroom encounter between a Jewish North Shore businessman and an African American business woman that challenges our preconceived notions about race, class, religion, and even the law.

We’ve been promoting Defamation in anticipation of the shows premiere. Our staff has expanded our Evanston route two-fold and have also hit the surrounding towns quite hard.

Bee is a young woman who believes she has the uncanny ability to see the future, and maybe even alter it. With the click of a television remote, we loop through time in this dark, funny world premiere about a woman bent on reinventing her own destiny, and possibly, the world.

From Joe DiPietro, the author of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change and Broadway’s hit musical Memphis, comes the Chicago premiere of F*cking Men. The play examines ten gay men from all walks of life as they negotiate the before and after of lust, love, betrayal and the pursuit of sex and emotional connectivity. Funny, poignant, sometimes dramatic, always provocative and sexy, the show has been a runaway success in London and L.A. where it has been playing consistently for two years.

F*cking Men has now made it to the Theatre Building where it has been getting great reviews from local critics. We worked with the Theatre Building distributing their promotional materials throughout the city for their latest production. F*cking Men closes this month, so be sure you don’t miss it.

A Man’s Diary, is a true story of love, happiness, heartache and pain. A naked look at one man’s pursuit of love from the good to the bad to the psychotic. Written and directed by award winning platinum artist and producer Lil Louis, Based on the critically acclaimed book A Man’s Diary, the play bravely takes the audience on one man’s entire love journey from the most romantic, innocent and funniest moments, to the worst, most painful and embarrassing moments imaginable.

Sizwe Banzi is Dead @ Court Theatre

Master playwright Fugard and the actors of the original South African cast collaboratively wrote the story of a man who pretends to be dead in order to live. This searing exploration of identity and the political power of storytelling is presented in a new, intimate staging by Court Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson.

We last worked with Court Theatre on the critically acclaimed The Illusion, and now, we’re excited to be a part of their newest production. Jack Shore, a well-known television personality, is appearing for one night only in a tribute to his grandfather, Jack Shemerinsky, great star of the Yiddish Theater. Backstage in his dressing room, Jack confronts his challenges as an actor and as a husband to his co-starring wife simultaneously, 75 years in the past, Jacob has problems of his own. Actors play their past and present roles in a dizzying display of life in the theater in this time-traveling farce.

A Red Orchid Theatre has been kicking out some great productions over the years, but, you might not be aware of the courses they offer for kids. Killer Joe focuses on the Smith family, a greedy and vindictive clan of Texans, hatch a plan to murder their estranged matriarch to cash in on her insurance policy. Unable to bring themselves to do the deed, they hire Killer Joe Cooper, a full-time cop and part-time contract killer. Once he steps into their trailer, their simple plan quickly spirals out of control.

We have been in the middle of a distribution campaign for Killer Joe, and have also been printing the promotional materials themselves. This production, brought to life by Profiles Theatre, was written by playwright Tracy Letts and is directed by Steppenwolf ensemble member Rick Snyder.

Chicago Tap Theatre will be presenting its first ever tap story-show where the audience will determine the fate of the tale. Love Taps explores the concept of lonely singles searching for their soul-mates through internet dating, and what happens after those couples meet their on-line prospects in-person. During intermission, the audience will be able to decide which characters get to be paired up with each other, creating entirely different performances from night to night.

The Lost Boys of Sudan @ Victory Gardens Biograph Theater

Three boys meet while fleeing the horrors of war. They soon find themselves in Fargo, North Dakota where encountering drought, crocodiles and guerrillas are replaced with malls, video games, and Skittles.

We are working closely with Victory Gardens on this project, as we distribute handbills all over the Chicagoland area. Be sure to bring your used books to the performances, as Victory Gardens has partnered with The PACODES Library Project to collect books that will help build a library in Southern Sudan.

Slide is both a poignant tale of human frailty and a work about the seduction and manipulation of the American psyche. This multi-media, multi-art form production features renowned collaborators Rinde Eckert and Steve Mackey alongside Eighth Blackbird in a Chicago premiere.

Eighth Blackbird always seems to be a part of some very exciting and unique productions at Harris Theater. A True History of the Johnstown Flood introduces us to The Baxter Theatre Troupe who have been summoned to perform at an exclusive resort next to a beautiful man-made lake in the Pennsylvania mountains. When a violent rainstorm compromises the lake’s shoddily constructed dam, the resulting disaster lays bare the tragic inequities of the rigid class system-and paves the way for a seismic change in both theater and society.

John Mahoney, one of the greatest actors to come out of Chicago returns to the Northlight Theatre as the lead in the new production A Life. Two years ago, seven of our country’s most eminent Asian-American playwrights were invited by Chicago’s Silk Road Theatre Project to take a voyage through their own pasts, via a simple test of their DNA. The results of those journeys, and the questions that arose concerning heritage, ancestry, identity and the perils of such explorations, are the basis of a fascinating evening of new short plays.

The classic tale by Jane Austen courtesy of Chamber Opera Chicago makes its way to the stage of the Athenaeum Theatre for it’s Chicago debut! We previously worked with Chamber Opera Chicago on their annual holiday classic Amuhl and the Night Visitors, and we are very excited that they invited us to work with them again on their latest production.

As the evening unravels, secrets are shared about life, love, sexuality and, ultimately, the doubts of young Christian leaders. This exciting new production is brought to you by the folks at The New Colony , who strive to contribute original material to the American artistic canon, and develop a new theater going audience.

A Love Lost Life explores the bonds and barriers between fathers and sons manifesting in Brando’s own efforts to understand fatherhood. The 90-minute biopic reveals his feelings towards his father and his confusion about being a father to his own children. Brando’s final years inspired the title and focus.

Featuring four separate actors portraying Brando at different ages, A Love Lost Life paints a unique portrait of one of Hollywood’s most infamous stars.
